Brakes don't feel right? Don't leave it.

Brakes wear gradually, so most drivers don't notice how much stopping power they've lost until it's significant. Worn pads left too long will cut into the rotors, which turns a pad replacement into a pads-and-rotors job.

A brake inspection measures what's left on the pads and rotors, checks the fluid and looks for leaks, so you know exactly where they stand.

Brakes questions

How do I know if I need new brake pads?

Squealing, grinding, a longer stopping distance or a brake warning light are common signs. The only way to know for sure is to measure the pads, which is part of every brake inspection.

Do rotors always need replacing with the pads?

Not always. Rotors are measured against the manufacturer's minimum thickness and checked for damage. If they're still within spec and in good condition they can stay.

How often should brake fluid be changed?

Many manufacturers recommend every two years, because brake fluid absorbs moisture over time. Check your logbook, or ask when you book.
